19th years old cellist
Born in Madrid in 2005, Julia Tripodo is an Italian-Argentine cellist who, from an early age, has stood out for her virtuosity and talent in the international music scene.
Julia has accumulated an impressive number of awards in international competitions, which has consolidated her position as one of the most outstanding young talents of her generation. Among her most outstanding achievements are the First Prize and the "Ceské hudební nástroje" award at the 18th International Jan Vychytil Cello Competition in Prague (2024), XI Villa de Molina Young Performers Competition (2025), Gustav Mahler Prize Cello Competition (2025), First Prize at the Servaas International Music Competition, with the second and third prizes being declared void (2023), First Prize at the Royal Maas International Music Competition (2023), First Prize and Special Prize of the City Council at the XXI Benidorm International Music Competition (2019), "Cidade de Vigo" String Competition (2019, 2020), "Celloleón" Foundation Competition in León (2018), First Prize at the Ávila Chamber of Youth Music Competition (2018), and in February 2021 she was awarded at the Málaga Cello Competition Masterclasses.
At the age of 11, she made her debut as a soloist with the JORCAM (Orchestra and Choir of the Community of Madrid), performing Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto in C minor. At the age of 12, she performed Vivaldi's Concerto for two cellos with the same orchestra. Later, at the national level, she played as a soloist with Orquesta La Lira Ospal, the Madrid Festival Orchestra conducted by Albert Skuratov, and the Orchestra of the University of Alcalá in the San Ildefonso Chapel.
In April 2023, Julia made her debut in Latin America, performing J. Khachaturian's Concerto in E minor with the San Juan National Symphony Orchestra (Argentina), under the direction of maestro Wolfgang Wengenroth. This debut was followed by an invitation to play as a soloist again in 2024, alongside conductor Yenny Delgado.
In 2024, at the age of 18, she was invited by maestro Eduardo Vassallo to the 8th Latin American Cello Festival in Buenos Aires, where she won the award for ‘international artistic project’. At this festival, she performed three recitals, including the national premiere of Mayuzumi’s Bunraku. She also performed Elgar’s Concerto in E minor as a soloist with the Mendoza Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of the maestro Pablo Herrero Pondal, opening the orchestra’s 2024 season.
Julia has given recitals in some of the most important venues in Spain, such as the Auditorio Nacional de Música, the Auditorio Sony and the Jardi dels Tarongers Foundation in Barcelona. She has also appeared in numerous international venues, including the Pavillon de Artois and the Maison de l’Argentine in Paris, as well as in the Czech Republic, Italy, Germany, Poland and Hungary.
In addition, Julia is a frequent participant in music festivals. Some of the highlights in her career include Latin American Cello Festival (2024), Kammermusikfest Winsen – Katharina Sellheim & Friends (2024), Sommermusik im Oberen Nagoldtal (2024), Festival Academy Budapest (2023), Triangel Festival, Dresden (2023), Inusual Music Week in Santander (2023), Cello Akademie Rutesheim in Germany (2022), Bahia Festival in Cadiz (2020), ProCello Foundation Szamotuly-Masterclass in Poland (2019), Benidorm International Music Course (2019), Festival 'Scenic Musical Interpretation' at 'Real Sitio de San Ildefonso' (2019), CelloLeón Festival (2018), Festival Clásicos Colgados (2016), Vic Cello Festival (2014).
From 2014 until 2019, Julia was a member of the Albatros Quartet, directed by Professor Sergio Castro. During this period, she participated in festivals such as Música en Vena in Madrid and the VII Concierto sobre la Hierba in Asturias. During her time at the Reina Sofía School, she was part of the Trio Contrapunto BBDO under the direction of Marta Gulyás and the Cuarteto Banco de España under the direction of Heime Müller.
Currently, at 19 years old, she is studying for a Bachelor in Music at the prestigious Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien in Hannover, where she studies under the tutelage of Professor Leonid Gorokhov.
At the age of 15, she was accepted into the Reina Sofía School of Music in the Aline Foriel-Destezet Chair, where she was a student of maestro Iván Monighetti until 2023. She received a tuition and instrument scholarship from the Albéniz Foundation. At the age of 4 she began her cello studies with Arantza López Barinagarrementeria.
Throughout her career, she has had the opportunity to receive master classes from renowned artists such as Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, Frans Helmerson, Philippe Muller, Claudio Bohórquez, Troels Svane, Nicolas Altstaedt, Kazimierz Michalik, among others, and chamber music with Nicolás Chumachenco, Markus Becker, Aitor Hevia and Josep Puchades (Quiroga Quartet), Krzysztof Chorzelski (Belcea Quartet), Hansjörg Schellenberger, Heinz Holliger, Pascal Moraguès and Ralf Ghotóni.
